"Considering the information we have obtained so far, it is presumed to be an IRBM-class medium-range ballistic missile with solid fuel propulsion," the Japanese government said of the ballistic missile launched by North Korea yesterday (6th).

Japanese government spokesman Yoshimasa Hayashi said at a press conference this morning, "I would like to refrain from mentioning the launch intention one by one when asked about the North Korean ballistic missile launch and its analysis status."

Regarding North Korea's announcement that it had successfully test-fired a "new hypersonic mid- to long-range ballistic missile," he said, "We are continuing to analyze whether the missile was a hypersonic weapon."

"North Korea's nuclear and missile development is a threat to peace and safety of our country (Japan) and the international community, and it is absolutely unacceptable," he said. "We will focus on information collection, analysis, vigilance, and surveillance, and cooperate with South Korea and the United States to demand the abolition of nuclear and ballistic missile plans."

A hypersonic missile is a missile that usually flies at Mach 5 or higher in the atmosphere and flies in an anomalous orbit that is different from the usual parabolic ballistic trajectory.
