Today (6th), the Seoul High Court held a final trial on former Mayor Song and lawmaker Hwang's charges, including violation of the Public Official Election Act.
Prosecutors ask the court to sentence former Mayor Song and Representative Hwang to six years in prison and five years in prison,
Song Byung-ki, former deputy mayor of Ulsan City, and Baek Won-woo, former presidential secretary for civil affairs, who were involved in the
case, were also sentenced to three and a half years in prison and three years in prison, respectively.
Earlier, the court held a final hearing in September last year and tried to proceed with the sentencing date in mid-November, but resumed its argument for additional witness examination, including Lim Dong-ho, former member of the Democratic Party of Korea.
The alleged interference in the Ulsan mayoral election is a suspicion that Cheong Wa Dae systematically intervened before the 2018 local elections to help former Mayor Song, known as a long-time friend of former President Moon Jae In, win the election.
The sentence of the Seoul High Court will take place on the 4th of next month.
