Amid delays in reaching a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, there has been a series of deaths of newborns in Gaza due to cold and malnutrition.

According to the Washington Post (WP) in the United States, at least seven infants have died in Gaza since the middle of last month until recently.

On the 20th of last month, a three-week-old newborn named Aisha Alcas died in Kanyunis, southern Gaza.

After overnight temperatures dropped and dawn, Aisha was found dead with her family turning into ice, and the child was underweight.

Medics said Aisha died of malnutrition and cold.

On the 29th of last month, a 4-week-old baby was carried dead at Al-Aqsa Martyr's Hospital in central Gaza, and the cause of death was septic shock related to hypothermia.

In recent weeks, Gaza's night temperature has dropped to minus 1 degree Celsius, and last week, heavy rains flooded more than 1,500 tents.

Edouard Beigveder, United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) regional official for the Middle East and North Africa, said in a recent statement that "a tragic situation is expected in which more children lose their lives in inhumane conditions while being defenseless in the cold."
