Song Young-gil, former chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea's National Convention, will be sentenced to the first trial today (8th).

The Seoul Central District Court will proceed with the first trial date of Song, who was indicted on charges of receiving illegal political funds, from 2 p.m. today.

In the final trial, the prosecution demanded nine years in prison and a fine of 100 million won, saying CEO Song, the largest beneficiary of the case and the final decision maker, should bear the biggest criminal responsibility.

Song is accused of spraying envelopes containing 60 million won to lawmakers and others in the party to be elected as party leader at the Democratic National Convention in 2021.

In addition, he is accused of receiving 760 million won in illegal political funds through the Peace and Living Problem Research Institute, a neighboring organization, and 40 million won of them was accepted as bribes.
