Reuters reported that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has asked to overturn the conviction of the trial of the "sexual scandal gag money payment case," which is set to be sentenced in the first trial on the 10th.

Earlier, the Manhattan Criminal Court, the first trial court in New York, refused to accept Trump's request to overturn the conviction and dismiss it, and decided to sentence him on the 10th, 10 days before the president's inauguration.

In response to the decision, Trump's lawyers filed an appeal with the New York State High Court and asked for the conviction to be overturned, the case dismissed and the first trial suspended on the basis of Trump's immunity.

The lawyers argued that the criminal immunity enjoyed by the U.S. president for public conduct while in office will extend to the period of regime change before taking office.

Just before the 2016 presidential election, Trump handed over $130,000 to former adult film actor Stormy Daniels to prevent past sexual exposure and was put on trial for tampering with the company's accounting records.

Meanwhile, Judge Juan Merchant of the first trial court said on the 3rd that the "unconditional release" ruling, which maintains a guilty verdict against Trump but does not punish him, seems to be the most valid solution.
