More than 600 aftershocks continued in one day in the Tibetan Plateau, where a strong earthquake occurred yesterday (7th).

The China Earthquake Networks announced that there were a total of 660 aftershocks by 10 a.m. the next day after a 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit the Xizang Autonomous Region at 9:05 a.m. local time yesterday.

Then, at 3:44 p.m. (local time), a 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck Madu County (34.79 degrees north latitude, 97.51 degrees east longitude) in Guoluo Province, Qinghai Province.

Qinghai Province is attached to the Xizang Autonomous Region, but the straight line distance between the two epicenters is more than 1,000 km.

14,668 people, including military, police and firefighters, were involved in the rescue operation in the Tibetan highlands, setting up 187 settlements and moving more than 46,000 victims.

Local authorities said they had rescued 407 people through overnight searches, and the number of casualties remained unchanged as of 7 p.m. last night (7th) with 126 deaths and 188 injuries.
