Foreign media, including the AP and AFP, reported that 40 people were killed in a military bombing in a village controlled by Myanmar's ethnic minority rebels.

Kaying Tuca, a spokesman for the ethnic minority militant group Arakan, said a fighter jet bombed Ramli Island in western Myanmar's Rakhine province on the afternoon of the 8th local time.

It added that 40 civilians were killed and at least 20 were injured, adding that the fire caused by the airstrike spread throughout the village and burned more than 500 homes.

There was no official announcement from Myanmar's military regarding the raid.

Myanmar's military launched a coup in February the following year and bloody suppressed opposition forces after the National Alliance for Democracy, led by state adviser Aung San Suu Kyi, won a landslide victory in the November 2020 general election.

However, it has recently been struggling against joint attacks by minority armed groups and civil defense forces under the interim government of the Democratic camp and the National Unity Government.
