In the aftermath of climate change such as global warming, various disasters such as large wildfires, Arctic cold waves, and snowstorms are occurring simultaneously in the United States, according to an analysis.

As of November 1 last year, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration had caused $1 billion in damages in the United States in 2024. A total of 24 climate disasters worth more than KRW 1.46 trillion were reported.

Severe storms were the most common with 17, followed by four typhoons, one wildfire and two winter storms, with at least 418 deaths.

He also explained that between 1980 and 2023, there were only 8.5 climate disasters per year, but in the past five years alone, there have been an average of 20.4 cases per year, which has recently increased sharply.

In the United States, there are warnings that the frequency of major disasters increases as climate change caused by global warming intensifies, and the intensity of abnormal climate phenomena is stronger than in the past.
