Boko Haram, an Islamic extremist militant group, has attacked the presidential palace in Chad, an African inland country.

It was just hours after the visit of the Chinese foreign minister, who is on his first trip to Africa for the 35th year.

Beijing correspondent Kang Jeong-gyu reports on what context this means.

7:45 p.m. local time, in front of the presidential palace in Chad, a Central African landlocked country.

Out of the blue, the gunmen run inside through the guard post at the outer gate.

After a shootout, 18 of the 24 raiders were killed and the rest were captured alive.

The government spokesman and foreign minister, who appeared with a handgun around his waist, broadcast live, saying he succeeded in overpowering it.

[Abderaman Kulamala / Chadian Foreign Minister: Inshala! It will annihilate all villains who doubt the integrity of our country. [Let's fight!]
It happened just hours after the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is on a tour of
Africa.

Local media have identified the Islamist extremist militant group Boko Haram as the mastermind.

Following Boko Haram's 2014 attack on a local Chinese company, China has been building a bitter relationship with each other since 2020, supplying weapons to Nigeria's war on counterterrorism.

Boko Haram, particularly encouraged by the Taliban's retaking of power in Afghanistan in 2021, is increasing the level of armed struggle in many parts of Africa.

It is a factor that adversely affects China's diplomacy in Africa as well as the construction and investment of 'Belt and Road' infrastructure.

[Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman: Peace and stability in Chad will not be affected by the incident. Foreign Minister Wang Yi finished his visit to Chad smoothly and smoothly.]

At the end of last year, even Syria was overthrown by Islamic rebels, putting China's Middle East policy to the test.

The Chinese diplomatic leader, who has chosen Africa for 35 years as his first trip to the New Year, returned with heavy homework.
