[Common sense] What is the Constitutional Court?

Article 1, Paragraph 1 of the Constitution of the Republic of Korea "The Republic of Korea is a democratic republic."

Korea is a constitutional democracy built on the basis of the Constitution.

The Constitution is the highest law of the state, and all state agencies must comply with the Constitution.

The Constitutional Court is a place where the Constitution works properly in reality.

★ Constitutional Petition Trial Judgment When basic rights are violated due to public power, a trial to relieve them.

★ Judgment to determine whether the unconstitutional law is against the Constitution.

★ Judgment for dissolution of a political party When the purpose or activity of a political party violates the democratic basic order, a judgment for dissolution of the political party.

★Trial for power dispute A trial that resolves a power dispute between state agencies under the constitution

★ Impeachment Trial Judgment When a high-ranking public official, such as the President, commits a serious misconduct in his/her duties, a judgment that decides to dismiss him/her.

Constitutional trials are trials in which the action of state public power follows the Constitution and protects the basic rights of the people.

The Constitutional Court is the last bastion to protect the Republic of Korea and democracy.
