AI Synthetic Photo Distributor Arrested in the rubble of Gangjin

A local media report said a netizen who synthesized a picture of a child on the rubble of a Tibetan earthquake with artificial intelligence AI has been arrested by police.

China's state-run CCTV said, "There are clear traces of AI generation in the photo," adding, "The original author of the photo distributed a video containing the same screen in November last year."

Chinese authorities have taken administrative custody, believing that a netizen living in Qinghai Province compiled a photo of a child synthesized with AI and information on Tibet's earthquake to attract people's attention.

CCTV said that the threshold for generating false information is getting lower due to the constant development of AI technology, stressing that in the event of a major disaster or event, we must raise our guard and be careful about spreading information.
