Trump strongly criticized the resignation of Special Counsel Jack Smith, who had indicted him on charges of overturning the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Trump said on social media, "The stench of Jack Smith's party has disappeared," adding, "I was kicked out after spending more than $100 million and destroying the lives of many people and families."

"Special counsel Jack Smith has done nothing except show how incompetent the Biden administration is," he said. "Special counsel Jack Smith has been fired, and it's a disgrace to the United States."

Smith, who was appointed by the Biden administration's Justice Department, investigated and charged Trump with overturning the results of the 2020 presidential election and leaking confidential documents and illegally storing them.

However, after Trump won the presidential election in November last year, the Justice Department abandoned prosecutions in both cases, citing its policy of not being able to prosecute the sitting president.

Earlier, Trump repeated his personal attacks on Smith during the presidential campaign and said he would "remove Smith in two seconds" if he took power.
