In connection with the Muan Jeju Air passenger plane disaster on December 29 last year, the government conducted a special safety inspection on airlines with the accident model, B737-800, and confirmed some cases of violation of regulations.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said that it has been confirmed to comply with the overall operation and maintenance regulations after intensive inspection of maintenance history by major systems such as landing gear and engines of B737-800 in special safety inspections of six airlines, including Jeju Air, T'way Air, and Jin Air.

However, some airlines have identified violations of regulations such as exceeding pre- and post-flight inspection cycles, failure to comply with defect resolution procedures, and failure to comply with passenger boarding procedures, and will take strict measures against violations of laws along with improvement orders.

Major improvements include reflecting more than one engine stop training in training instructors, regular training, and procedures for responding to bird collisions during pre-flight briefings.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport also said that the performance of navigation safety facilities was well maintained after focusing on the installation location of four types of navigation safety facilities near the runway, including azimuth facilities, and that most of them have secured sufficient safety by using fragile materials.

However, he added that it was found that 7 airports and 9 facilities, including Muan Airport, needed to be improved for each defense facility and foundation.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to expand the inspection target to all 11 national airlines and conduct a comprehensive safety inspection from today (13th) to 31st.

Special safety inspections will be conducted on major airport facilities nationwide from today (13th) to 21st, and defense facilities will come up with improvement measures this month.
