According to the 2024 Disability Sports Survey released by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, 35.2% of people with disabilities exercise more than twice a week and more than 30 minutes per session outside their homes.
The figure was the highest since the first survey in 2007, up 1.3 percentage points from the previous year.
The most common motivation for the disabled to participate was because they felt they needed it voluntarily, followed by recommendations from family members and relatives and media advertisements.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism explained, "In 2020 and 2021, the participation rate of the disabled in daily sports decreased in the aftermath of COVID-19, but it rebounded from 2022 and rose to the highest participation rate ever last year."
The survey was conducted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Sports Association for the Disabled on 10,000 disabled people registered across the country from the age of 10 to 69.
