North Korea launches several short-range ballistic missiles over the East Sea

North Korea fired several short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea earlier today.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said it detected several short-range ballistic missiles fired into the East Sea from the Ganggyeong area of Jagang Province, North Korea, at around 9:30 a.m. today.

He also explained that the missiles flew about 250 kilometers and then landed on the East Sea.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said the intelligence authorities of South Korea and the U.S. have detected and monitored North Korea's missile launch preparations in advance, and immediately detected and tracked them when they were launched.

The South Korean military explained that it is closely sharing relevant information with the U.S. and Japan and analyzing detailed specifications of missiles fired by North Korea.

At the same time, he strongly condemned North Korea's missile launch as a clear provocation that seriously threatens peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

In addition, he emphasized that under the current security situation, North Korea maintains the ability and posture to overwhelmingly respond to any North Korean provocations under a strong South Korea-U.S. joint defense posture to prevent misjudgment.

North Korea previously launched an intermediate-range hypersonic solid-fuel ballistic missile on the 6th.
