Koo Ja-cheol, a leading figure in the 2012 London Olympics bronze medal myth, has ended his 18-year professional career.

Asked to "pick the most memorable scene," Koo Ja-cheol said at a retirement press conference at the Korea Football Center that it was an award ceremony, not a bronze medal match at the 2012 London Olympics.

Koo Ja-cheol explained why he had never forgotten his shame since losing 0-3 to Japan a year before the Olympics, but eventually beat Japan and won the bronze medal.

The most regrettable moment was during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where he said he was too young and that he did not think that national team players always had social responsibility.

The biggest reason why I decided to retire was that after returning to Korea from Germany, I felt deeply that my physical resilience was much lower than before.

Finally, he thanked Jeju for discovering himself and raising him as a player, and expressed his gratitude to his father, wife, and all his family for making him.

Koo Ja-cheol, who first won the Taegeuk mark in 2008, won the bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics and has been active on the German professional stage for eight years, moving between Wolfsburg, Augsburg and Mainz as well as domestic professionals.

Koo Ja-cheol will continue to serve as a Jeju advisor for youth development after his retirement.
