The Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office raided Gunsan City Hall in Jeollabuk-do Province today (14th) in connection with allegations of corruption in the Saemangeum solar power generation project.

Gunsan City is suspected of giving preferential treatment by selecting a company run by an acquaintance of Gunsan Mayor Kang Im-joon as a business operator while promoting the Saemangeum solar power project worth 120 billion won.

Earlier, the Board of Audit and Inspection identified the situation in which back and forth money was exchanged in the process of winning the solar power project in 2022 and requested the prosecution to investigate.

In response, Gunsan City also said that it could not be concluded that Mayor Kang gave preferential treatment just because he was an alumnus of the business representative.
