Musk's office, co-head of the new government's Government Efficiency Department, is expected to be set up in the Eisenhower building, just off the West Wing, the Oval Office, the newspaper said, citing sources.
Musk also discussed the issue of entering the West Wing, and reported that it was unclear whether he had been issued a pass to enter the West Wing freely.
Musk's Department of Government Efficiency is a temporary organization for government spending reform, not a formal government department.
Currently, employees of the government's efficiency department are working at Musk-owned SpaceX's Washington, DC office, and it is not known in detail how the government's efficiency department will operate in the future.
The New York Times noted that the company owned by Musk has a multibillion-dollar contract with the U.S. federal government, which is likely to create ethical and legal problems, including a ban on conflicts of interest.
