The trial of former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, who was the first to be put on trial on charges of civil war in connection with the martial law incident, will begin in earnest today.

This morning, the Seoul Central District Court will hold the first trial preparation date for former Minister Kim, who was indicted on charges of engaging in important civil war missions and abusing his authority.

The trial preparation date is a procedure for arranging witnesses, evidence, and issues before the full-fledged pleading date, and there is no obligation for the defendant to attend.

Former Minister Kim is accused of proposing emergency martial law to President Yoon Suk Yeol, ordering the National Assembly and the Central Election Commission to send troops, or ordering Yeo In-hyeong, commander of the Defense Security Command, to arrest and detain politicians.

Former Minister Kim completely denies the charges, saying that President Yoon's declaration of emergency martial law was not subject to judicial review as an act of governance, and that martial law was justified.

Starting with former Minister Kim, a series of trial preparations will be held on the 6th of next month for police chief Cho Ji-ho, former Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency chief Kim Bong-sik, and former military intelligence commander Roh Sang-won.
