After the final breakdown of negotiations between the ruling and opposition parties over the special prosecution bill on the emergency martial law, the amendment re-arranged by the opposition party passed the National Assembly.

National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik voted on an amendment to reduce the subject of the investigation in the "special prosecutor for civil war" bill, which was previously jointly initiated by six opposition parties, at around 11:20 p.m.

With 274 lawmakers on the ballot, the amendment was approved with 188 in favor and 86 against.

The amendment included only "related recognition cases" among the 11 existing cases subject to investigation, including foreign exchange induction and propaganda of civil war, and instead included five cases, including the occupation of the National Assembly and the NEC, which were included in the proposal of the People's Power itself.

In addition, the investigation period was reduced from 130 days to 100 days, and the number of special prosecutors was reduced.

Park Chan-dae, the floor leader of the Democratic Party, met with reporters before voting on the amendment and said that he largely accepted the people's claim of power during the negotiation process, and that it is safe to say that it is actually an agreement.

He said there would be no justification for rejecting the power of the people, adding that acting president Choi Sang-mok also expects to accept and promulgate the special prosecution law as soon as it is passed.
