The Israeli government has finally approved talks with Hamas on a cease-fire in Gaza.
Following the Israeli security cabinet meeting overseeing the war, the ceasefire proposal was approved at the general cabinet meeting held on the 18th local time.
The full cabinet meeting lasted more than six hours and, despite opposition from some hardliners, the cease-fire was finally approved.
As Hamas officially announced the conclusion of the ceasefire negotiations earlier, the Gaza War, which lasted for a year and three months, stopped firing and entered a ceasefire.
A cease-fire agreement will take effect Sunday afternoon, and three of the first female hostages in Gaza will be released.
The two sides also plan to stop fighting for six weeks and discuss a permanent ceasefire, exchanging 33 hostages held by Hamas and Palestinian prisoners in Israel.
As Israel prepares to take hostages to be released, hostage families have also held events and welcomed the cease-fire agreement.
UN agencies are also ready to support war-torn Gaza residents.
It will send trucks loaded with 600 relief supplies to Gaza a day and build temporary prefabricated clinics to restore the collapsed health care system.
However, some in the Middle East have voiced opposition to the ceasefire agreement.
In Iran, an anti-Israel rally was held in the capital Tehran, denouncing Israel and the United States.
Iran's former interior minister, Ahmad Bahidi, criticized the Gaza truce and hostage repatriation negotiations at a rally as "a sign of defeat."
