An armed gunman stormed the Supreme Court in central Tehran, Iran's capital, killing two judges, the BBC and other foreign media reported on the 18th local time.

"Three people were targeted in the Supreme Court, two judges were killed and a bodyguard was injured," according to Mizan Online, a state-run media outlet run by Iran's judiciary.

He added, "The shooter killed himself."

The judges who died were Mohammad Mogheise and Ali Rajini, who were known to have been involved in cracking down on Islamic regime dissidents in the 1980s.

Foreign media said it was rare for a judge to be killed in a shooting in Iran, coming at a time when Iran's economic downfall and Trump's return to the White House.
