Government checks the distribution status of cabbage and radish ahead of Lunar New Year's Day

The government is checking the distribution status of cabbage and radish, whose prices have soared ahead of the Lunar New Year.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, and the Fair Trade Commission announced that they will conduct an inspection by the 24th.

As of the 16th, the price of cabbage is 5,007 won per head, 79.8% higher than a year ago and 46.8% higher than usual.

Radish is 3,189 won per piece, 120.1% more expensive than a year ago and 73% more expensive than usual.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs diagnosed that demand for storage by local distributors and kimchi companies increased due to expectations of price hikes, and wholesale and retail prices of cabbage and radish were high this month due to sluggish winter cabbage and radish crops.

In response, the government believes that the inspection will stabilize the price of cabbage and radish and establish a distribution order.
