Mr. Yoon Suk Yeol succeeded in becoming president in a short period of time, but during his term, he suffered a crisis following constant controversy and a barrage of big opposition parties.

He failed to cooperate and communicate with the opposition party, which eventually resulted in his first arrest as a sitting president since the declaration of emergency martial law.

Reporter Shin Yoon-jung pointed out President Yoon's major political journey from political entrance to arrest.

President Yoon Suk Yeol made his presidential bid official in June 2021, declaring his entry into politics three months after stepping down from the prosecutor general himself.

[Yoon Suk Yeol / Then-Former Attorney General (June 29, 2021): We will re-establish the values of a broken liberal democracy, the rule of law, and fairness that runs through the times and generations.]

After joining the People's Power and winning the presidential candidate over Hong Joon Pyo, he succeeded in unifying himself with Ahn Cheol Soo's People's Party candidate at the last minute.

In the presidential election, he was elected as the 20th president, winning by 0.73%p over candidate Lee Jae-myung with 48.56% of the vote.

He emphasized cooperation as he is a political newcomer to the 0th term and is in the situation of the National Assembly.

[Yoon Suk Yeol / then-President-elect (March 10, 2022): I will communicate with the Congress and cooperate with the opposition.]

However, various suspicions related to First Lady Kim Gun-hee led to external pressure on the death of Marines, and the ruling party had to accept the result of a crushing defeat in the general election in April last year.

Since then, the opposition's offensive has intensified, with 25 vetoes, the most by any president in history, and the first parliamentary opening since the constitutional amendment, continuing an extreme confrontation with the opposition.

President Yoon declared a surprise emergency decree on December 3 last year, citing the opposition party's legislative congestion.

[Yoon Suk Yeol / President (Dec. 3rd last year): We declare an emergency martial law to eradicate pro-North Korean opposition forces at once and protect the free constitutional order.]

The emergency martial law was withdrawn within six hours due to the National Assembly's resolution to lift it, but President Yoon was suspended from his duties 10 days later when the National Assembly's impeachment bill was approved.

He was then arrested after being arrested as the first sitting president in constitutional history on charges of rebellion, and he ended his rollercoaster-like political journey for a relatively short period of three and a half years from his political entrance.
