Kim Yo Jong, the younger brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, has expressed his position on summit diplomacy with Belarus, a representative pro-Russian country.

In a statement to the Korean Central News Agency, Kim said there were foreign media reports suggesting the Belarusian president that North Korea and several other Asian countries organize the highest-level reunions, but that is not the case, at least to his knowledge.

On the contrary, he said he was well aware that Belarus had been desperately hoping for North Korea's highest-level contact two years ago, and that it was important to clarify his intention if he hoped for the development of relations.

Deputy Minister Kim said that if the Belarusian side starts from this position and aims to develop friendly and cooperative relations with us, there is no reason to refuse and would be happy to welcome it.

It is the first time in two months that Kim has expressed his position through North Korean media since he issued a statement criticizing North Korean leaflets in November last year.
