Chinese authorities have also said they are willing to drive relations between the two countries to make greater progress from a new starting point, with reports that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has expressed his intention to visit China within 100 days of his inauguration.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Ning said in a regular briefing that China wants to strengthen communication and cooperation with the new U.S. government under the strategic leadership of the two countries and manage differences properly.

Earlier, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Trump told his aides that he would visit China and meet with President Xi within 100 days of taking office.

In a phone call with President Xi on the 17th, Trump also mentioned, "I look forward to meeting you as soon as possible."

Mao also stressed that stable and healthy Sino-U.S. relations are in the common interest of both countries and in line with the expectations of the international community, saying that cooperation between China and the United States benefits everyone and that fighting hurts everyone.
