U.S. President Donald Trump had a video call with U.S. soldiers in South Korea at Camp Humphreys, a U.S. military base in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, at a ball for military officials held after his inauguration on the 20th local time.

President Trump, who took over the command of the military at noon, said on the phone, "How is Kim Jong-un (North Korean State Councilor) doing?" and "Can I ask how South Korea is doing now?"

President Trump went on to say, "You are treating someone with very bad intentions," as if conscious of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, adding, "Even though I have developed a very good relationship with him, he is a tough cookie."

Attention is focusing on why President Trump, who emphasizes increasing the burden of defense costs on allies, chose the U.S. Forces Korea as he communicated with overseas soldiers for the first time as commander-in-chief after returning to the White House.

President Trump visited Korea in November 2017, the first year of his first term in office, and visited Camp Humphreys.
