Berlin Film Festival announced 19 invitations to the competition, including director Hong's new work, at a press conference on the 21st local time.
In the competition section, along with Hong's new work, "Blue Moon," directed by Richard Linklater, and "Dreams," directed by Michel Franco, will compete for the Golden Bear.
Director Hong's new film, "What Nature Says to You," starring actors Ha Sung-guk, Kwon Hae-hyo, and Cho Yoon-hee, is a story that takes place when a poet in his 30s visits a lover's house, and is set to be released in Korea in the first half of this year.
Earlier, director Hong was invited to the Berlin International Film Festival eight times since 2008, and received five awards last year, including the Silver Bear Award.
