Tesla Inc TSLA CEO Elon Musk, a close ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, has accused the move of a Nazi salute of incitement by the mainstream media after it became controversial.

Musk said on his old Twitter account X on the 21st local time that the mainstream media is completely incendiary, and that you are now the media.

In the meantime, former U.S. President Barack Obama, former Vice President Kamala Harris, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton posted posts from other users with photos of one arm raised diagonally.

Musk continued, "Honestly, if you want to scratch it, you have to do better," and added, "Everyone's Hitler-like attacks are too boring."

Local media reported that the Democratic Party of Korea, which made similar moves, appears to be claiming to target only itself without taking issue.

In response, the BBC quoted fascism experts as saying, "Musk's movements are Nazi salutes. It was a very aggressive salute," he said.

The Anti-Defamation Coalition, an anti-Semitic deterring group, then posted a post saying, "Musk seems to have made an awkward gesture at a moment of frenzy and it's not a Nazi salute."

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz says he has freedom of expression but cannot tolerate far-right support.
