Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, said he welcomes President Donald Trump's expression of his willingness to resume the suspended dialogue between the U.S. and North Korea.

Representative Lee said at the Supreme Council that he expects President Trump's will to ease the crisis on the Korean Peninsula, leading to denuclearization, inter-Korean exchanges, and peace on the Korean Peninsula.

He then stressed that the Democratic Party of Korea will make active efforts to prepare countermeasures by issue and industry in the Trump era, saying, "We need to prepare countermeasures for each issue and industry on how it will affect Korea's major export industries as well as trade and trade in general."

Lee met with U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Joseph Yun after the top and thanked the people for their consistent support for democracy in relation to the political turmoil in South Korea after martial law.

In response, Yoon said, "I have no doubt that South Korea will overcome the crisis and become stronger," adding, "I look forward to working closely with the Korean government and the National Assembly and cooperation to strengthen the Korea-U.S. alliance."
