The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said it will make it mandatory for all overseas manufacturers of cabbage kimchi to have HACCP certification starting tomorrow (1st) in order to manage imported kimchi at the same level of hygiene as Korea.
The application of HACCP certification to imported cabbage kimchi overseas manufacturers began in 2021 for companies with more than 10,000 tons a year, and has since expanded the target every year.
Currently, 54 companies in both China and Vietnam have received HACCP certification, and cabbage kimchi imported from these companies and distributed in Korea reached 249,000 tons last year.
