In response to Iran's massive missile strikes targeting Israel, U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres called for an end to the conflict in the Middle East.

The U.N. Security Council held an emergency meeting on the 2nd local time to discuss the Middle East, which has been intensified by Israel's ground attacks on Hezbollah and Iran's massive missile attacks.

"We need to stop the violence of 'an eye for an eye, a tooth for an eye' that calls for death," Guterres told a Security Council meeting. "We don't have much time."

In particular, he said, "I strongly condemn Iran's massive missile attack on Israel the day before," and emphasized, "We need to stop the terrible cycle that is driving the people of the Middle East to the edge of the cliff right now."

UN Ambassador Hwang Joon-guk, who attended the meeting on behalf of South Korea, a member of the Security Council, also noted that the Security Council should take important measures immediately to prevent the situation from falling deeper into a quagmire.
