Hoeryeongpo in Jangheung, Jeollanam-do, is a place where Admiral Yi Sun-shin, a general of Chungmugong, was defeated in the Battle of Chilcheonryang and rebuilt the Joseon Navy, which was virtually dismantled, to prepare for the Battle of Myeongnyang.

On the opposite side of Gogeumdo Island, Chungmugong was temporarily laid to rest after his death.

A festival is being held to commemorate this, such as reenactment of the appearance of the time and academic conferences.

Reporter Kim Bum-hwan is back.
