As for data centers essential for artificial intelligence and AI development, the Minister of Science and ICT said that the harmfulness of electromagnetic waves is very low.

Yoo Sang-im, Minister of Science and ICT, said in a parliamentary audit today (8th) that the failure to attract data centers will lead to a decrease in national competitiveness, saying, "Just as it is difficult to attract nuclear power plants, it is difficult to attract data centers because they are recognized as harmful facilities due to electromagnetic waves."

At the same time, he said that since the harmfulness is very low and it is an essential facility in Korea, government efforts are needed to improve public awareness or attract it.

Cho In-cheol, a lawmaker of the Democratic Party of Korea, said Gwangju succeeded in attracting a data center with the approval of residents, adding that if companies actually come and use the data center, the problem of being perceived as a hate facility will be significantly alleviated.

Lee Joon-seok, a member of the New Reform Party, also pointed out that support projects are needed, saying that lagging behind in the competition to form an efficient data center could shake industrial sovereignty.
