When Korean novelist Han Kang was selected as the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, foreign media also broke the news as emergency news.

The AP said Han Kang was the first Korean writer to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, and it is also the second time a Korean has won a Nobel Prize since former President Kim Dae Jung won the Peace Prize in 2000.

In particular, Han Kang's acceptance of the Nobel Prize in Literature "reflects the growing global influence of Korean culture."

Earlier, director Bong Joon-ho won an Oscar for the movie Parasite, Netflix drama Squid Game was also successful, and K-pop groups such as BTS and Blackpink are also gaining global fame.

The New York Times said Han River's award was a surprise, citing that Chinese author Chan Xue and others were mentioned as potential candidates for this year's award.

Kyodo News reported, "It is the first time that a Korean has won the Nobel Prize in Literature, and it is the second Nobel Prize in total since former President Kim Dae Jung received the Peace Prize in 2000."

"Han Kang's father, who was born in 1970, was also a respected novelist," Reuters said, introducing that he has a literary background, adding that Han has begun to stand out internationally for his novel The Vegetarian.
