Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba called it "very meaningful" that the atomic bomb victim group "Nihon Hidankyo" was chosen as the Nobel Peace Prize winner.

Prime Minister Ishiba, who visited Laos to attend the ASEAN Summit, said today (11th), "Nihon Hidankyo is an organization that has worked to eradicate nuclear weapons for a long time."

It is the first time in 50 years that Japan has won a Nobel Peace Prize since former Prime Minister Eisaku Sato, who declared three non-nuclear principles and signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in 1974.
