Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Iranian President Masud Pezecikyan and officially invited him to Russia.

The two leaders met in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan in Central Asia, where an international forum was held on the 11th local time.

Putin offered the visit, saying relations with Iran were a priority for Russia, while Fezeshikyan accepted the invitation.

This is the first time Putin and Fezeshikyan, who took office on July 30, have met.

"The volume of trade between the two countries is increasing this year, although we haven't recovered from last year's decline, the trend is good," Putin said.

Mr. Fezeshikyan blamed Israel's bombing of civilians and Western countries for supporting it and argued that the situation in the region has become serious because Israel does not even recognize international law and humanitarian frameworks.

The two leaders will hold separate bilateral talks during the BRICS summit of emerging economies to be held in Kazan, Russia from the 22nd to the 24th.
