The Supreme Court upheld the original ruling that sentenced HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. to a fine of 25 million won for violating the law on fair subcontracting transactions.
Earlier, the second trial court determined that the leaked data was useful for business activities, had independent economic value, and was kept confidential by the significant efforts of the affected company.
The Supreme Court also dismissed the defendant's appeal, judging that there was no problem with the judgment of the appeals court.
In addition, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering employee Han, who is accused of demanding technical data from subcontractors, and Kim, who provided the data to competitors, were fined 1 million won, suspended for 1 year, and fined 5 million won for 1 year, respectively.
Since 2015, during the Hyundai Heavy Industries period, they have tried to reduce costs by inducing competition through dualization of subcontractors.
Since then, it has been confirmed that it has requested specific technical data from existing subcontractors and handed it over to competitors.
