The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission has allowed the restart of the Wolseong Unit 3 nuclear power plant in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, which has been inspected regularly since May 1.

The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission explained that out of 94 regular inspection items, 85 items that need to be carried out before the critical period were examined and confirmed that they could be safely carried out.

The automatic shutdown of the reactor, which was caused by the power cut off due to the fire in the Wolseong Unit 3 breaker room on March 19, was found to be due to a faulty connection of parts inside the circuit breaker.

In addition, the Aug. 7 automatic start-up of the pre-diesel generator occurred when a worker installing a cable to repair fire damage in the circuit breaker chamber approached the high-voltage circuit breaker box and caused a short circuit, cutting off external power.
