Prosecutors investigating allegations of preferential hiring of Thai Starjet by former President Moon Jae In's former son-in-law are expanding their investigation network to the Ministry of Unification of the former government.

Some pointed out that it was a separate investigation, but the prosecution says it is not separate from the existing investigation at all.

Reporter Kim Min-sung's report.

The prosecution sent prosecutors and investigators to the Ministry of Unification and the inter-Korean relationship management team for three days from the 14th to secure evidence.

Earlier, the house of former Minister Cho Myung-kyun, the first Minister of Unification of the Moon Jae In government, was also raided.

The prosecution's new problem is the process of selecting a chartered flight that carried our performance group to Pyongyang from March to April 2018.

At that time, the Ministry of Unification reportedly chose Eastar Jet to increase its experience in North Korea and price competitiveness, but suspicions have since been raised that there may be another inside story.

[Yoon Chang-hyun / National Assemblyman of the People's Power (2022 audit): In the end, the Inter-Korean Cooperation Fund guaranteed it (because there was no aircraft insurance), but there are many points out whether you took the insurance properly or not. This should also be seen as a flight corruption....]

The aircraft flown by Eastar Jet is a Boeing 737 that was borrowed from a foreign airline.A situation in which astronomical damages had to be paid if an accident occurred due to lack of insurance through a

lease airline.

The prosecution seems to doubt whether former lawmaker Lee Sang-jik held the title of "an airline specializing in visiting North Korea" in exchange for hiring former President Moon Jae In's son-in-law.

However, some say they cannot understand that the prosecution expanded its investigation into the issue of chartered flights to North Korea while looking into the preferential hiring of former President Moon's son-in-law.

Until now, the Jeonju District Prosecutors' Office has emphasized that "it is conducting a limited investigation, focusing on the charges received," whenever similar criticism has been raised.

[Yoon Gun-young / Democratic Party member: I think it's a clear investigation. Initially, the prosecution's investigation into the employment of former President Moon Jae In's son-in-law in 2018 is a completely different nature.]

A prosecution official said, "We are conducting the investigation with as much moderation as possible within the scope of the existing crime," adding that it is not separate from the existing investigation.
