Arrested in their 20s who produced and distributed a large number of false videos of acquaintances.

The cybercrime investigation team of the Gyeonggi Northern Police Agency arrested a man in his 20s for creating and distributing false sexual exploitation videos (deepfakes) using photos of acquaintances such as high school and university classmates and sent them to the prosecution.

Mr. A is accused of making hundreds of false videos of classmates and others from 2023 until recently and distributing them through his own Telegram 'Knowing Skill Room'.

In addition, it was investigated that false videos of acquaintances and celebrities have been produced and possessed since March 2020, and a digital forensics investigation confirmed more than 15,000 illegal videos, including various illegal filming and sexual exploitation of children and adolescents.

It was also revealed that some victims were sent false videos produced themselves and threatened to distribute them if they did not follow their instructions.

The police explained that A did not make any financial gains by distributing the video, and that they will continue to investigate the participants in the Telegram chat room and are also taking measures to protect the victims.
