Kyodo News said the two countries recently agreed to resume imports of silk carp, and exports are expected to resume after procedures such as quarantine in the future.
In a related development, the General Administration of Customs, a Chinese customs office, reportedly posted a list of quarantine targets on its website, including six fish farms in Niigata, Hiroshima and Fukuoka Prefecture.
Earlier in August last year, China banned the import of Japanese seafood immediately after the discharge of Fukushima contaminated water, and suspended the renewal of quarantine facility permits for ornamental silk carp in Japan, effectively blocking imports.
In 2022, Japan's exports of silk carp were about 54.7 billion won, of which China accounted for the largest amount of 19%.
Last month, China announced a plan to gradually resume imports of Japanese fisheries products on the condition that they collect samples of independent contaminated water.
