The prosecution asked the court to impose a two-year prison term on a man in his 30s and restrict employment at child-related institutions for five years in a final hearing on the violation of the Child Welfare Act (child abandonment and neglect) held at the Daejeon District Court's Criminal Chamber 11 (Chief Judge Jang Min-ju).
Earlier on February 9 last year, A was put on trial for illegally sending a child born by his wife at an obstetrics and gynecology hospital in Jung-gu, Daejeon, without registering his birth.Mr. A and his wife, who posted on the
online community and found someone to raise their child, handed over the child to a woman who did not even know her name and other personal information.
It is reported that it is not known who the woman took the child at the time and does not know the whereabouts of the child.
Mr. A said, "I'm so embarrassed and can't raise my head now that I've been in court due to the wrong choice in the past," adding, "I'm ashamed of myself for not looking for it, just thinking that my child will be living well for a long time." After this trial, I will try to find the child and live with an apology," he said.
