The government's unpaid legal state subsidies to the Health Insurance Corporation exceeded 21 trillion won over 18 years.

According to the data received by Rep. Jeon Jin-sook of the Democratic Party of Korea from the Health Insurance Corporation, the government should provide 20% of the health insurance premium income to the insurance corporation under the law, but has not given an average of 1.2 trillion won a year since 2007.

In addition, all previous governments, including the current government, have reportedly paid less state subsidies by using the expedient of estimating the expected amount of insurance premiums.

In order to prevent such expediency, it has been pointed out that it is necessary to change the support regulations based on clear figures such as confirmed premium income instead of ambiguous expected premium income.
