Venice, the watery city of northern Italy, which introduced the world's first city admission this year, will raise city admission fees next year.

Venetian Mayor Luigi Brunaro held a press conference at the city hall on the 24th local time and said the city's entrance fee, which was introduced as a pilot this year, was successful and will be implemented next year.

The price will also increase, but if you make a reservation early, it will be the same as before, but if you make a reservation within four days of the scheduled visit, you will have to pay 10 euros, which is double, and about 15,000 won in Korean money.

Venetian authorities also warned that they would not be fined if they were caught not paying admission fees this year, but that they would impose them next year.

Venice was the first major city in the world to test-introduce city admission fees this year to address the phenomenon of "overtourism," which is over-tourism.

It was implemented for a total of 29 days from April 25 to July, the anniversary of the liberation of Italy, focusing on Italian holidays and weekends.

During this period, about 450,000 tourists paid 5 euros for admission to the city, collecting about 2.2 million euros and 3.3 billion won.

Next year, it will be applied every Friday to Sunday and public holidays from April 18 to July 27 for a total of 54 days.

City admission is only charged to tourists who do not stay in Venice and visit on a same-day schedule.

Venice, a world-class tourist attraction and city of beautiful water, was estimated to have been visited by more than 20 million people last year.
