Google has been investigated for anti-trust violations by British rival authorities in connection with its partnership with artificial intelligence startup Anslogic.

Britain's Competition Mayor's Office said it had sought expert opinion on whether Google's partnership with Anthropic would undermine the competition, and that it would start an official investigation with sufficient information.

Anthropic, considered a rival to OpenAI, is an AI start-up founded in 2021 by OpenAI researchers and is well known for its own AI model called Claude.

Google announced last year that it was investing more than $2 billion in Anslogic, which will see the competition market office decide by Dec. 19 whether to approve Google's partnership with Anslogic or expand its investigation.

The survey is in contrast to last month's approval of Amazon's $4 billion investment in Anthropic, which is interpreted as taking into account Amazon's small market share in the UK.
