Housing using 3D printing technology has entered Chile for the first time in Latin America.

A research team at the University of BioBio in Chile recently built the first concrete house in Latin America with 3D printing technology according to a digital blueprint.

The 30-square-meter building was completed in 29 hours by pouring concrete in layers to build walls and then assembling them for two days.

The research team explained that the housing design secured sustainability following the circular economy and carbon neutrality principles, and focused on earthquake resistance in consideration of the earthquake-prone situation in Chile.

He also stressed that cost and reliability demonstrations remain, but that flexible building models can be used to change traditional architectural styles.
