It has been two years since the disaster that killed 159 people who visited Itaewon for Halloween.

Citizens mourned in search of the alley where the accident occurred.

There is a reporter at the scene of the disaster. Reporter Kim Lee Young!

[Reporter]
Yes, it's in Itaewon, Seoul.

Are many citizens visiting there?

[Reporter]
Yes, I can see the alley where the disaster happened behind me.

The reporters have been here for about two hours, but citizens who remember the disaster are constantly visiting.

The citizens waited in line for their turn. On one side, they laid flowers and incense to commemorate the victims.

I could also find a message to comfort the bereaved family, hoping for the peace of those who laid food and bouquets or left.

At one point, the memorial service was held to comfort the souls of the victims.

Even in the rainy weather, citizens who visited this place bowed their heads for a long time to pay silent tribute or quietly wipe away tears.

Let's listen to the citizens.

[Witness: I can't see this alley. Looking at it now, the alley is much narrower than I thought at the time, and when I think about the people who passed away, I hope they are very sad and peaceful..]

[Andrea Mall / Switzerland: It's heartbreaking and sad that people who went out to celebrate Halloween with fun and happiness end up with such a disaster.]

Is there a memorial service going on as well?

[Reporter]
Yes, first, at 6:34 p.m., about 30 minutes later, there is an event to read an oral record book containing the stories of bereaved families and survivors.

6:34 is the time when 112 reports were received for the first time on the day of the disaster.

At 7 p.m., a cultural festival will be held at Noksapyeong Station Square to read messages of remembrance and condolences.

Not only bereaved families, acquaintances, and survivors of the victims, but also citizens who share their hearts can participate.

Earlier at 11 a.m., the 2nd anniversary ceremony was held at the National Assembly.

With National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik and the leaders of both the ruling and opposition parties in attendance, they voiced one voice, saying they would not let such a disaster happen again.

Various events such as cultural festivals, forums, and memorial concerts have been held at the "House of Stars," an incense center in Jung-gu, Seoul, over the past week.

Families of victims and ordinary citizens continue to visit today.

So far, I'm YTN Kim Yi-young in Itaewon, Seoul.
