According to foreign media such as the Times of India on the 31st (local time), eight gunmen raped a 19-year-old woman near a train station in Kolkata Canchirapara, eastern West Bengal, one of India's largest cities.
The victim was walking along the train station track with her husband at around 4 a.m. to 5 a.m. on the day of the incident.
However, eight gunmen suddenly appeared, dragged the woman to the bushes next to the track, sexually assaulted her and beat her husband.
At the time, the couple was reportedly kicked out by a family opposing their marriage and was about to spend the night near a train station.
The victim reported the damage to the police, and the police later arrested all eight suspects involved in the crime.
According to the police, they were all Kaliani residents and identified as daily workers.
Meanwhile, such sex crimes continue to occur in India to the extent that it is called a "rape republic."
In August, a female trainee working at a national hospital in Kolkata, India, was killed after being sexually assaulted at a hospital, which led to a large-scale doctor strike in India.
According to Indian government statistics, 31,500 sexual assaults were reported in 2022.
