Touch of Arizona/Nevada Results in Western Competition States
Election Day Message Harris 'Unity' and Trump 'Border'
The U.S. presidential election in 2024 is already in full swing in the East.
Voting in the West, including L.A., is just coming to a close.
Let's go to the West of the United States. Reporter Lee Jungmi!

Yes, it is located in the western California state of the United States.

Are you done voting for the western part of the country?
[Reporter]
It's just time to close.
It's almost 8 p.m. here in California.
Each polling station in the western region is now rushing to prepare for the end of the vote.
Only Hawaii and Alaska remain in the U.S. where voting is still taking place.
Voting will end in Hawaii in the next hour and Alaska in the next two hours.
It's Arizona and Nevada, two of the most high-profile regional states in the West.
Voting ended about an hour ago in Nevada and two hours ago in Arizona.
The reason why Arizona residents who participated in the main vote supported Harris and Trump, and Trump and Harris, respectively, was the same value that the two candidates emphasized last.
Harris' supporters cited national unity and Trump's supporters cited border issues as their top priorities.
Let's listen to it.
[Christie Castorena / Harris supporter (Arizona): I think she's the best person for this job, and she's going to bring us all together and do what's right for everyone regardless of which side.]
[Edward Walp / Supporters of Trump (Arizona): They (Democrats) left the border wide open. It is destroying this country. We can't do that anymore. They're putting in illegal aliens. It's right to call them illegal aliens. I'm not an immigrant.
Nevada and Arizona have 17 votes out of 538 electors.
I'm waiting for the results of the exit poll, and it's been nearly two hours, but it hasn't come out yet.
After the vote, candidate Trump said, "If it's a fair election, I'll accept it," raising the possibility of dissatisfaction.
It stimulates voters' distrust of early voting and mail-in voting.
In Arizona, where there were many mail-in ballots due to its contested area and mountainous terrain, a press conference was held.
[Jack Skira / Deputy Maricopa County Manager, Arizona] My team will close the polls and diligently collect things. However, we will always prioritize safety and security over speed.]

It's the area with the most electors. What's the atmosphere in California with this reporter?
[Reporter]
Yes, in California, where I am, 10 percent, 54 out of 538 electors are assigned.
It's the largest electoral district.
Although the number of electors is a region with great influence, it is classified as a representative Democratic dominant region because Democrats have won the last eight elections in a row.
Exit polls are not out yet, but
When I went to the local party office today, I was in an atmosphere of predicting the result to some extent.
Democrats were confident that Harris would win California.
So I focused on the Senate election rather than the presidential election.
The U.S. Senate currently has a 51-49 Democratic majority, including four Democratic-leaning independents, but it could change in this election.
Out of the total 100 seats, 34 new seats will be selected in this election.
Twenty-three seats were held by Democrats, so they must win almost all of the Republican-dominated areas to maintain their Senate majority.
Republicans also focused more on the House and Senate elections.
Although Trump was expecting to win more votes in California than in the past, he seemed more focused on supporting congressional candidates.
The U.S. House of Representatives has a Republican majority, but it's only eight seats away, so if seats are lost in strong Democratic areas like California, the majority in the House could also change.
Here in California, two Republican-Korean House members are also seeking a third term.
They are Representatives Young Kim and Michelle Steel, and attention is being paid to whether they will be elected or not.
